The vehicle, seen in video footage surrounded by pedestrians, initially moved slowly before suddenly accelerating, striking numerous people. In the aftermath, emergency services scrambled to the scene. A total of 47 people received medical attention—27 were transported to local hospitals, while 20 were treated at the scene. Two individuals sustained serious injuries, one of whom is a child. Among those affected were at least four other children. A paramedic on a bicycle was also struck but thankfully avoided serious injury.

Merseyside Police quickly arrested a 53-year-old local man, confirming he is believed to be the driver. Authorities declared the event a “major incident” and launched an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. However, Merseyside Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims confirmed during a press briefing that the act is being treated as an isolated incident. She stated that the police are not searching for any additional suspects, and crucially, the incident is not being considered an act of terrorism.
